London London is one of the most attractive capitals of Europe. It is modern and has a lot of traditions at the same time. The city takes one of the first places in the number of tourists every year. The population of London is 7,1 million people, 2,7 million of them live in Central London. About 10 million tourists come here every year. They are attracted by its history, 160 museums, 80 parks, architecture and theatres.
Westminster Palace The meeting place of the British Parliament. The Elizabeth Tower, which is often referred to by the name of its main bell, “Big Ben”, is a landmark of London and the United Kingdom in general, one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city and an emblem of parliamentary democracy.
Big Ben The origin of the nickname Big Ben is the subject of some debate. The nickname was applied first to the Great Bell; it may have been named after Sir Benjamin Hall, who oversaw the installation of the Great Bell, or after boxing's English Heavyweight Champion Benjamin Caunt. Now Big Ben is often used, by extension, to refer to the clock, the tower and the bell collectively, although the nickname is not universally accepted as referring to the clock and tower. Some authors of works about the tower, clock and bell sidestep the issue by using the words Big Ben first in the title, then going on to clarify that the subject of the book is the clock and tower as well as the bell.
The Tower of London It was used as a fortress, a prison, a zoo in the past. Now it is the place where the Crown Jewels are kept.
Parks of London There are over 150 parks and lots of small gardens and green sports places for everyone in London. Royal Parks are: Bushy Park, Green Park, Greenwich Park, Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, Regent’s Park, Richmond Park, St. James’s Park.
