It borders: in the west on the KRB, in the north on SK, in the east on Ingushetia and the Сhechenian Republic, in the south on Georgia and South Ossetia.
It was established on July 7 , 1924 as the North Ossetian Autonomous Republic.
Language
Iranian-speaking people living in the Caucasus. They are descendants of the Alans, or descend from one of the Caucasian groups that adopted the Iranian language.
The Ossetian language belongs to the Iranian group of the Indo-European family of languages. In addition to Ossetia, they also live in other regions of Russia, Georgia, Turkey and other countries.
Interesting Facts
There are more people living in North Ossetia than in countries such as Montenegro, the Bahamas or the Maldives.
Many locals keep cattle. So, according to statistics, there are about as many cows here as there are people, and there are three times as many sheep.
Representatives of more than a dozen nationalities live here. The majority of Osetians and Russians, about 60% and 20%, respectively.
Of all the constituent republics of the Russian Federation, North Ossetia is one of the smallest.
The inhabitants of North Ossetia adopted Christianity half a century before Prince Vladimir baptized Russia.
About 50% of the population of North Ossetia lives in Vladikavkaz, the capital of the republic
